Description
Bid on 25% of songwriter royalties from the No. 1 Latin hit “La Agarro Bajando” performed by Gilberto Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa, also known as "El Caballero de la Salsa" (The Gentleman of Salsa), is one of the most esteemed salsa artists of his time. “La Agarro Bajando” was released in 2001 and continues to get radio airplay more than 15 years after its release. The song brings in consistent royalties, with 25% of royalties generated in the last 12 months equaling $1,269.
Santa Rosa is a multi-Grammy Award winner and has had 12 consecutive No. 1 albums, more than any artist in tropical music history. “La Agarro Bajando” is from his 13th studio album Intenso. Released in 2001, the album was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album and became his third No. 1 set on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart. “La Agarro Bajando” also had success on its own, reaching No. 1 on Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart in 2002, and was awarded ASCAP's El Premio Award for the Tropical/Salsa Category.
Santa Rosa's career spans decades, beginning in the 80s. Considered a Latin music pioneer, he was the first salsa singer to perform a concert at Carnegie Hall. In 2002, he was awarded the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award. Just last year, he earned the Guinness World Records title of having the most No. 1s on Billboard's Tropical Albums chart.
Key Drivers
Over 15 years after its release, “La Agarro Bajando” continues to have a strong radio presence. In 2016 royalties from radio still made up 48% of the income. A 2016 Nielsen report notes that Hispanic American adults are avid radio listeners, with 97% listening to the radio each week. And since 2011, the weekly national Hispanic radio audience grew 11% (from 36.5 million to 40.4 million). With “La Agarro Bajando” still enjoying radio airplay, this increase in listeners makes for a larger potential audience for Santa Rosa's music.
