Description

Here’s an opportunity to invest in public performance royalties generated by an impressive catalog featuring hot hip-hop artist Kevin Gates — including his most commercially-successful and highest-charting single to date, “2 Phones.”

Acting as the foundation of this offering, “2 Phones” performed by hip-hop artist Kevin Gates brought in 60% of last year’s income. Released in 2016, the double Platinum-certified song has staggering 220+ million Spotify spins, and the video has over 260 million YouTube views. “2 Phones” charted peaked at No.17 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Not surprisingly, this collection earns primarily from domestic streaming sources, with 47% of historic earnings. Spotify is the leading contributing streaming platform with 13% the catalog’s total royalties to date. Pandora and Apple Music are right behind with 12% and 11% of total income, respectively.

Also featured in this catalog is “Had To” (2017) from Kevin Gates’s fifteenth mixtape By Any Means 2. “Had To” brought in 15% of last year’s royalties. This offering includes tracks from other popular hip-hop artists — “Scholarship” from Juicy J featuring ASAP Rocky and “Y.U. Mad” performed by Birdman featuring Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne — being the most notable.

Finally, there are pop titles included in this collection. Released in 2012 “See You Again,” is from Sweedish pop vocalist Loreen, which brought in 16% of income in the last year. Another pop contributor is “Ibitha,” a song features in the 2016 mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The title generates public performance royalties every time the film airs on TV or streamed on-demand.

Key Drivers

Hip-Hop and Streaming. According to BuzzAngle's 2018 Year End Report, hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in the U.S. The driver for the increase is streaming. Hip-hop/rap tracks accounted for more than a quarter of all on-demand plays on music streaming services in the US in 2018. This hip-hop catalog follows this trend, as over half of last year’s income came from streaming platforms. You can benefit from this rise in hip-hop as a genre on streaming platforms with this classic hip-hop catalog.

Song Age. This catalog contains music with release dates dating back to 2011. This provides a diverse income mix between new(er) releases and more mature works. Based on the recent BuzzAngle Music report, nearly two out of every three songs streamed in 2018 were titles released more than 18 months ago.

The top two highest-earning tracks in the last year have release dates of 2016 and 2012. A catalog containing a mix of mature works and newer releases is something worth noting as an investor. This diversity can help sustain a catalog's streaming earnings moving forward.

New Releases & Tours. Kevin Gates just recently released a new single on January 28th, 2019, and has tour dates scheduled through March 2019. While the new songs/albums are not included in this auction, new releases and active tours can help boost an artist's back catalog. Both give the artist the chance to solidify their current fan base and expand their reach to first-time listeners.
