What rights are included?

This offering includes songwriter public performance royalties from hip-hop and pop acts with a variety of release dates.

International income (which for this back catalog refers to royalties earned outside of Canada) is the leading source, with 84% of earnings in the last year. What’s interesting is that these earnings grew 46% compared to the previous year. International earnings, in this case, refer to radio and streaming from countries outside Canada, with the United States being the largest contributor.

The catalog’s top-earning song is “Lemme Freak” from hip-hop artist Lil Dicky — with 39% of last year’s income. The track was released in 2015 off Lil Dicky’s debut studio album Professional Rapper. Nearly four years after its release, royalties for “Lemme Freak” grew a healthy 31% year-over-year. The album Professional Rapper was very successful thanks to Lil Dicky’s fanbase, snagging the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart and going on to become Platinum-certified.

This collection also includes 2017 releases “Wicked” from alternative hip-hop duo Mansionz featuring G-Eazy, and “Anything You Want” performed by R&B vocalist Sevyn Streeter. Combined the two tracks account for 31% of last year’s revenue. Finally, there are also pop-centric tracks in this collection: “Can’t Sleep Love” from acapella group Pentatonix and “We Are Stars” by Canadian artists Virginia to Vegas and Alyssa Reid.

Key Drivers

Diversity in Song Income Mix. Revenues are also widely distributed — the single highest-earning song only accounts for 39% of last year’s collective income. This means the catalog’s earnings are not tied to the success of a single track and provides built-in diversification for you as an investor.

New Album Release. Lil Dicky is set to drop a highly-anticipated new album in the near future. The sophomore album will include his most recent single “Earth,” a collaboration that features some of the biggest names in music: Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, to name a few.

While the new songs on the album are not included in this auction, new releases can help boost an artist's back catalog. The release of new music draws discovery among first-time listeners and re-engages existing fans, especially since it’s been nearly four years since his debut album.

Note About Change In Distributors

This catalog’s public performance earnings were historically paid by the Canadian performing rights society SOCAN. The songwriter recently resigned from SOCAN and is now a member of ASCAP. The majority of the data presented was collected/paid by SOCAN.

Going forward, the winner of this auction will collect from ASCAP and will be entitled to any past performance royalties collected from around the world to be paid by ASCAP, regardless of when they were earned.

About the Royalty Distributor
