Up for auction is a collection of works highlighting the back-catalog of Grammy-awarded hip-hop artist Ne-Yo. Included are multiple tracks from Ne-Yo including “Do You” and its’ remix, featuring fellow American R&B artist Mary J. Blige.

The 2007 release “Do You” makes up the majority of earnings, at 77% of income in the last 12 months. Released to the Grammy-awarded, certified Platinum album Because of You, “Do You” peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot R&B//Hip-Hop Songs chart. Having been released over a decade ago, it’s important to note that both the original version of the track and the remix show impressive recent growth, at 8% and 36% respectively in the past 12 months. Mature works with growing earnings are a key feature of this royalty stream.

Additionally, the Ne-Yo bonus track “Spotlight” from album Because of You, contributes to another 7% of recent and historic earnings. This collection earns from the Ne-Yo track, yet following its success, performing artist Jennifer Hudson released a new recording of the work in 2008.

This catalog also earns from the track “Happy”, also known as “Just Be Happy”, a song by Rihanna, released in late 2006 to promote the fragrance ‘Clinique Happy’.

Key Drivers

Dollar Age. This catalog has a Dollar Age of approximately 12 years. This means the majority of royalties earned in the last 12 months came from songs that have collected royalties for more than 12 years. “Do You” was released in 2007 and royalties continue to grow/remain consistent. A high Dollar Age like this suggests stability and longevity and is something worth noting as an investor. This trend may help sustain a catalog's earnings moving forward.

Income Mix. The winner of this auction can receive income from various royalty streams:

This catalog’s income mix is relatively evenly spread between mechanical and performance royalties. Historically, 48% of the revenue derived from mechanical sources while 37% of earnings came from performance sources. In the last 12 months, mechanical earnings have shown a 20% increase over the prior period.

Mechanical Rates. The US Copyright Royalty Board recently raised the rates digital music services must pay for mechanical royalties by nearly 44% over the next 5 years. Historically, this catalog has earned 48% of its royalties from mechanical royalties. What's more, in the last 12 months, these royalties have increased 20% over the previous period. As the winner of this auction, you will benefit from the mechanical rate increases as you collect mechanical royalties.

Matching Right

This seller's publisher holds a matching right on any sale of public performance income in this catalog. The publisher will have the opportunity to match the winning bid after this auction closes. If you are the winning bidder, the publisher must first decline their matching right before you will be able to complete your purchase. This process is generally completed within 5–10 business days.
