This is a unique chance to own a portion of the musical composition copyrights and associated royalties for a diverse catalog of music that includes songs by superstar artists Josh Groban and Santana, as well as TV theme songs and more. As a copyright owner, you will have control over publishing rights for this catalog, including mechanical and synchronization licensing. You'll also earn public performance royalties for both the artist's and publisher's shares. In the last 12 months, publishing and public performance royalties for this catalog have totaled $4,775.

Publishing control is a valuable asset in the music business. It gives copyright holders the power to license and monetize the music in ways not available to owners of passive income rights. As a publisher, you can seek out and approve new licensing opportunities as well as hire sub-publishers who can license the music on your behalf in different media and different parts of the world. You'll also benefit from mechanical royalties, which are royalties paid to publishers when music is purchased or downloaded, as well as public performance royalties, paid when the music is streamed online or played on the radio.

Of course, publishing rights aren't worth much if the music isn't good. Fortunately, this catalog features songs recorded by world-famous artists, as well as songs that have been chosen as themes for TV shows. “Si Volvieras A Mi” is a song performed by multi-platinum recording artist Josh Groban, and appears on his 5x platinum album Closer. “Hoy Es Adios” is a song performed by the living legend Santana, from his 2x platinum album SHAMAN. Both albums topped the Billboard 200 chart, in 2004 and 2002, respectively.

The biggest earner in this catalog is “One Thousand Voices,” a song performed by the coaches on the Dutch television show The Voice of Holland, and became the theme song for the second season of the show. It reached #1 on both the Dutch Top 40 and the Dutch Single Top 100 charts.  It also was used in The Voice of Germany and The Voice of Poland.  The song “Free,” performed by Dani Harmer, is the theme song for the show Dani's House and the track “Best Friends” has been used in episodes of America's' Next Top Model.

Clearly, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to add to your current publishing catalog, or if you are new to the music business, Royalty Exchange can recommend publishers and administrators who can help you monetize your publishing and copyright interests.

*Important Note* This catalog is subject to two sub-publishing agreements: (1) an administration agreement with Reach Music, which will expire December 31, 2016; (2) an exclusive sub-publishing agreement with Mushroom Music, specific to the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. Both agreements are available for review in the “Downloads” tab.

The Mushroom Music agreement included an advance that is unrecouped, which means that the agreement remains in place and the new owner can not collect publishing royalties in those specific countries until the advance is paid off. Royalties from the Mushroom Music agreement are not included in the “Financials” tab or raw data.

Except for the Mushroom agreement described above, on January 1, 2017, the winner of this auction will be the sole owner of the seller's interest in the musical composition copyrights and publishing interest for this catalog, and will be free to license the catalog or enter sub-publishing agreements. See the “Financials” tab for a full list of compositions, including the publishing/copyright percentages for each track.

The seller has the option to repurchase the royalty share and copyright interest from the winning bidder, for three years after the sale, for 120% of the final auction price. That means, if the seller exercises this option, you will at least get your money back plus 20% (because you'll be paid royalties along the way).

What is being sold?

100% of Seller’s interest in the musical composition copyrights, including the songwriter’s and publisher’s shares of public performance royalties, and the publisher’s share of mechanical, sync, and related royalties, attributable to the musical works in the track list in the "Financials" tab.

BMI will distribute the songwriter and publisher public performance royalties on a quarterly basis, beginning January 2017. All future income from publishing opportunities will come from the efforts of the winning bidder or its publisher/administrator.

How does this asset make money?

By leveraging the publishing rights included in this asset, the owner will earn royalties for licensing, mechanicals, and public performance. Every time one of these songs is downloaded or purchased, streamed on the internet or played on the radio, or licensed for use in a TV show, movie or commercial, the winner of this auction will earn royalties.
