Description

Up for auction is a country music collection featuring tracks from American artist Justin Moore and Canadian country star Johnny Reid. The earnings are influenced by both domestic and international sources – the U.S. makes up 62% of historical earnings while international sources contribute to 37%. What’s interesting is Canada alone contributes to 85% of all international earnings, in part due to the heavy influence of Canadian country artist Johhny Reid.

Driving domestic earnings are five contributing tracks from Justin Moore. Collectively, the works provide over 75% of recent income. The titles, “I Could Kick Your Ass,” “Hank It,” and “Like There's No Tomorrow,” are all off of his debut, self-titled Gold album Justin Moore. That album reached No 3 on Billboard's Top Country Albums and enjoyed crossover success at No. 10 on Billboard 200 in 2010. It’s worth noting that earnings for the top-earning track “I Could Kick Your Ass” have remained remarkably consistent in recent years.

As for the international portion of this catalog, Johnny Reid's “Out of the Blue” is one of the highest-earning songs, accounting for 30% of historical royalties. Off his fourth studio album Kicking Stones in 2007, the song peaked at No. 7 on the Canadian Country Charts. The album Kicking Stones was nominated for a 2008 Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year and certified Gold by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.

Key Drivers

Dollar Age. This offering has a Dollar Age of 8.32 Years. This means the majority of royalties earned in the last 12 months comes from songs that have generated royalties for nearly 9 years. A high Dollar Age like this suggests stability and longevity and is worth noting as an investor. This can help sustain the asset’s earnings moving forward.

International. Over a third of this catalog’s earnings come from abroad. As the winner of this auction, you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by ASCAP, regardless of when they were earned. As this collection earns primarily from countries outside the United States, it’s important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.

Country/Radio/Streaming. Country music’s already massive popularity has only grown over the last decade, particularly on radio. According to a recent Nielsen report, country is the top-ranked radio format compared to the nation’s radio audience as a whole, and the second-ranked music format when limited to the top markets only.

Radio royalties don't tend to level off as quickly with a popular country song, compared to other genres. As the winning bidder, going forward you'll collect the incoming radio royalties and other income sources — like streaming.

What’s interesting is historically, streaming accounted for 40% of this catalog’s earnings. In the last two years, we’ve seen streaming earnings increase over 11%, now contributing to nearly 70% of earnings in the last 12 months.
