With tracks dating back to 2012, this country music collection features High Valley’s most commercially-successful hit to date “Make You Mine.”

International sources (earnings collected outside the United States) account for 66% of this offering’s royalties in the last 12 months. Not surprisingly, Canada is the highest-earning country with 63% of last year’s total reported royalties.

Historically, U.S. radio accounted for 49% of earnings. This is attributed to significant radio airplay for “Make You Mine,” which resulted in three-quarters of notable radio royalties (with bonuses) — you’ll see the spike in Q4-2016 and Q1-2017 on the quarterly bar chart on the Financials Tab.

Anchoring this catalog are songs from the early years of Canadian country group High Valley. The band is comprised of brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel, and has a bluegrass/country sound with international appeal.

The catalog’s top song “Make You Mine” brought in 51% of last year’s earnings. As the third single off the group’s fourth studio album Country Line, it was initially released in Canada in December 2014.

After that High Valley was signed to Atlantic Records/Warner Nashville in 2015. “Make You Mine” was re-released on the Atlantic label on their first major-label album Dear Life in February 2016. You’ll see the increase in radio royalties as a result of the track’s re-release in the American market. The song hit Gold-certified status in the U.S. and No. 21 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Also off the album County Line are singles "(It’s Always Gonna) Be You,” “County Line,” and “Rescue Me” — with the latter two songs having the best year-over-year stability of the top-earning titles.

The catalog also includes “Love You For A Long Time” from High Valley’s 2012 album Love Is a Long Road and "Buzz, Buzz, Buzzin" from Canadian solo artist Tim Hicks.

Key Drivers

Dollar Age. This catalog has a Dollar Age of 5.90 years. This means the majority of royalties earned in the last 12 months came from songs that have collected royalties for nearly six years. A high Dollar Age like this suggests stability and longevity.

A catalog containing mature works with consistent is something worth noting as an investor. This can help sustain a catalog's earnings moving forward.

Country Music & Radio. Country is the top-ranked radio format in terms of overall number of stations in the U.S. Radio royalties don't tend to level off as quickly with a popular country song compared to other genres. Yet songs with significant radio play can often transfer that audience to streaming and platforms as radio royalties ebb. As the winning bidder, going forward you'll collect the incoming radio royalties and other income sources — like streaming.
