Up for auction is a catalog of Christian and pop works featuring some of the biggest names in the genre including Unspoken, Francesca Battistelli, Kutless, Jason Walker and more. This collection of works has earned for over a decade.

Top-earning tracks for this collection are “Down” and “Echo,” from New Zealand-Australian pop musician Jason Walker. The tracks contribute predominantly to the international presence driving this catalog. Collectively, the works contribute to nearly 40% of recent earnings, 21% of which derived from international sources. Additionally, featured on the 2011 album Midnight Starlight, “Echo” has shown recent growth in the last 12 months.

This collection also features an American Christian rock band Unspoken. The track “Who You Are” was released in 2012, debuting at No. 11 on Billboard’s US Christian Songs and US Christian Airplay charts. The track itself contributes to just over 13% of historic earnings.

Additional contributing tracks and artists include Francesca Battistelli’s “Angel By Your Side” and Kutless’ “Carry Me To The Cross.” Collectively the tracks claim nearly two million plays on YouTube alone.

Key Drivers

Radio. Radio is the largest source of revenue for this catalog historically, accounting for 53% of royalties. Although radio royalties are still being generated, they could eventually level off. Typically, songs that experience significant radio play can often build a foundation for other types of income.

Case in point: streaming. Historically, streaming brought in 10% of royalties. In the last 12 months, however, streaming accounted for 33% of royalties. Streaming royalties are also seeing a 16% increase over the last 12 months. So as we're seeing the radio royalties begin to slow down, other income sources (streaming) begin to increase.

International. The majority of this catalog’s earnings come from abroad — at 21% of historical earnings. As the winner of this auction, you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by BMI, regardless of when they were earned. As this collection earns primarily from countries outside the United States, it’s important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.

Pop/Streaming. According to the BuzzAngle 2018 Music Report, pop titles were the second-most streamed songs last year, representing 19.3% of all streams, up from 15.6% in 2017. Streaming accounts for 33%of this pop catalog's earnings last year — and its income is on the rise — a 16% increase over the previous four quarters.
