What is being sold?
25% of the seller's songwriter share of public performance royalties for a collection of musical works from the seller's ASCAP and SESAC catalogs. The financials represented in the listing reflect 25% of the royalties earned by this asset. That means if you owned the asset available for auction in 2015, you would have earned $8,522 of royalties.
Royalties for all of the songs included in this auction were paid by ASCAP until April 2016, when a publisher for a number of tracks in the catalog moved them to SESAC. Royalties earned by these tracks will be paid by both ASCAP and SESAC in the immediate future and then exclusively by SESAC when ASCAP's license expires. Please see the "SESAC Transition Letter" posted in the "Financials" tab and click on the following link for more information: https://www.sesac.com/WritersPublishers/UPPM_FAQ.aspx
how does this asset make money?
Every time a song in this catalog is played on the radio, Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, or in any other type of public performance, you earn royalties. ASCAP makes payments quarterly and the next ASCAP payment is scheduled for October 2016.
what is interesting about this asset?
The catalog up for auction earns the majority of royalties internationally, and the third quarter international payment is historically the largest payment. This is important to note because this year's Q3 international payment is due in November.
The highlight of this catalog is the international hit “Boomerang,” by DJ Felli Fel featuring Akon, Pitbull, and Jermaine Dupri. “Boomerang” is the third highest earning track in the catalog and accounts for 5.6% of the catalog's earnings.
The highest earning tracks in the catalog are performed by Redrama, an accomplished European rapper. Redrama has won multiple European and Finnish Rap Awards, including an European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) in 2005. The EBBA award is an annual award given to ten emerging artists or groups that have reached audiences outside their own countries with their first internationally released album. After winning his EBBA, Redrama joined Gang Starr as a supporting artist on their European Tour. The highest earning track is “Clouds,” which accounts for 16.1% of the catalog's earnings and features A.J. McLean (member of Backstreet Boys). “Let Go,” which accounts for 7.7% of the catalog's earnings, features Kristinia DeBarge.
Finally, this catalog includes two additional tracks that are important to note. "Les Sex" is performed by Kylie Minogue and is a track on her most recent album, Kiss Me Once. “Latin Girl” is a song performed by Justin Bieber that has not been officially released, but has still generated almost 3 millions views on YouTube. If “Latin Girl” is released by Justin Bieber in the future, the winner of this auction will earn royalties every time the song is performed in public.
