As the winning bidder, you’ll own the musical composition copyrights and collect publishing income from a catalog of 1990s country songs, including Grammy-winning “I Ain’t That Lonely Yet” from Dwight Yoakam.
Released in 1993 on Yoakam’s album This Time, “I Ain’t That Lonely Yet” is this offering’s top-producing track. The song won the 1995 Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and peaked at No. 2 Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart. Impressively, the song continues to drive this catalog’s earnings 26 years after its release, bringing in 79% royalties in the last 12 months.
The income mix for this offering is evenly split between mechanical and performance sources. In the last 12 months, public performance royalties brought in half of revenue (50%), with an impressive 48% year-over-year growth. Mechanical royalties account for 44% of last year’s revenue, with other sources accounting for the remaining 6%.
Also featured in this catalog is Diamond Rio’s 1992 hit “In A Week Or Two.” The country single received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group. “In A Week Or Two” performed well on the radio peaking at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and accounts for 16% of revenue last year. Not to be overlooked is “This Is Me Missing You” from country artist James House generating 4% of income.
Musical Composition Copyrights. You will own the musical composition copyrights for this catalog. That means you'll have control over future licensing opportunities and any new revenue sources for the music. Please see the section below titled Note About Copyright/Ongoing Administration for more important information.
Income Mix. The winner of this auction can receive income from various royalty streams:
Mechanical: Royalties paid to songwriters and artists when music is sold (think CD or vinyl) but also when music is streamed (streaming mechanicals) “on-demand” (like Spotify).
The US Copyright Royalty Board recently raised the rates digital music services must pay for mechanical royalties by nearly 44% over the next 5 years. As the winner of this auction, you will benefit from the mechanical rate increases over the next five years.
Performance: Royalties paid to songwriters when music is performed publicly. Music played over the radio, in a restaurant or bar, or over a service like Spotify or Pandora is considered a public performance.
Synchronization: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers for the licensing of a song in music for a movie, TV show, or commercial.
As the winning bidder, you’ll receive all upfront sync fees for any of the songs’ use in future TV/Film or commercials.
Featured Artist. Dwight Yoakam is a country music veteran, who started his career in the 1980s and coined his particular sound Honky Tonk or "Hillbilly.” He has sold more than 25 million records to date and has 30+ singles on the Billboard Hot Country charts to his name.
He still continues to be relevant today with an active 2019 tour and two short term Vegas residencies on the books. Tours give artists the chance to solidify their current fan base and expand their reach to new listeners.
WHAT IS BEING SOLD?
The Seller’s interest in the musical composition copyrights, including the publisher’s share of all publishing royalties attributable to the musical works in the track list noted above. (The songwriter’s share of public performance royalties is excluded from the sale.)
