Description
At stake in this auction are sound recording earnings generated by a catalog of pop/EDM tracks produced by up-and-coming artist Prince Fox. As the winning bidder, you will earn royalties any time the songs (or the associated album) are streamed, digitally downloaded, or synced for the lifetime of the copyright.
FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Streaming is both the largest source of earnings for this catalog, as well as the most stable, accounting for 99% of the last 12 months’ returns. This is not uncommon for sound recording assets, as they enjoy a disproportionately larger share of streaming royalty income.
The top-earning song — “Space” — accounted for 60% of the catalog’s total returns last year. Notably, royalties for the song grew 18% year-over-year.
ABOUT THE CATALOG
This offering features three tracks from the 2019 studio album All This Music, Vol. 1 from Prince Fox. In many cases, singles are released prior to the full album release, you’ll notice this here as all three tracks debuted prior to the album.
The foundation of this collection is the single “Space” — a collaboration between Prince Fox and Quinn XCII. Released officially in 2017, the track brought in 60% of last year's royalties and has over 13 million spins on Spotify, making it Fox's most popular song on the platform.
Next up is “Just Call” featuring Disney star, Bella Thorne, with 34% of last year’s returns. The 2017 single peaked at No. 24 spot on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart. To date, the track has 9.6 million spins on Spotify.
The third and final track included is “Time Alone,” another collaboration, this time with the indie Australian rock band The Griswolds.
Key Drivers
Sound Recordings. Sound recording royalties benefit from streaming disproportionately more than composition-based royalties. If Spotify pays 70-cents of every dollar on music rights, 60-cents of that goes to the sound recording copyright (which the label splits with the artist based on their contract agreement), while the remaining 10-cents goes to the composition copyright.
You can see this trend reflected in the catalog up for bid. In the last year, 99% of royalties came from streaming platforms. This is good news for you as the investor, as it follows the industry macro trend of rising streaming royalties for labels.
WHAT IS BEING SOLD?
The seller's interest in the artist royalties (except non-interactive digital performance royalties collected by SoundExchange), attributable to the sound recordings listed in the Track List noted above.
Please note, all royalties attributable to the official music videos for the sound recordings created by Prince Fox or Dim Mak are excluded from the sale. All royalties for other “sync” uses of the sound recordings in audiovisual works are included.
Distribution Note
Dim Mak’s exclusive distribution period expires on a track-by-track basis — on 6/30/2027 for “Just Call”, on 8/11/2027 for “Space”, and 5/4/2028 for “Time Alone.” When Dim Mak’s distribution periods expire, the seller will select a new distributor for the tracks and direct the new distributor to pay the purchaser’s share of royalties accordingly. In order to ensure that the purchaser receives payments uninterruptedly following the Dim Mak distribution period, Royalty Exchange holds the right to approve or deny any new distributor (to protect against a scenario where the new distributor’s fees or practices would cause a reduction in the royalties due to the purchaser, relative to the previous distributor’s fees or practices).
About the Royalty Distributor
Dim Mak Records is an independent, Los Angeles-based record label, events company, and lifestyle brand founded by Steve Aoki in 1996. The label has released music in punk, indie rock, hardcore, hip hop, and electronic dance music. Dim Mak distributes royalties for its artists on a biannual basis.
When Dim Mak’s distribution periods expire, the seller will select a new distributor for the tracks and direct the new distributor to pay the purchaser’s share of royalties accordingly. Please see note above for more information.
