Description

Here's a very rare opportunity to earn royalties from one of hip-hop's most iconic artists, Jay Z. This catalog includes six Jay Z tracks, as well as songs performed by Beyoncé, Puff Daddy and GZA (founding member of Wu Tang Clan). Over the last four quarters, the catalog has earned $1,275.

The star of the catalog and its largest earner is the title, “Ni**a What Ni**a Who” performed by Jay Z. Released in 1999, off Jay Z's third album Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life, “Ni**a What Ni**a Who” reached No. 23 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles charts. The album Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life was Jay Z's first album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and eventually reached 5x-Platinum certification. The album also won a Grammy for Best Rap Album in 1999.

“Ni**a What Ni**a Who” accounts for 44% of the catalog's earnings, bringing in a total of $5,823 since 2009. The song's royalties are fairly evenly split between domestic and international earnings, at 42% and 58% respectively. Other Jay Z works include “Bring It On,” “Hawaiian Sophie,” “In My Lifetime,” and “Rap Game/Crack Game,” as well as “Jigga What/Faint,” the Jay Z and Linkin Park mashup from the EP Collision Course. Released in 2004, Collision Course reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified-Platinum.

Further works that contribute to the catalog's income include “Fighting Temptation” performed by Beyoncé featuring Missy Elliott, “I Got The Power” from Puff Daddy and GZA's “Legend of the Sword.”

Key Drivers

Not surprisingly, the catalog's most appealing factor is the Jay Z contribution. The catalog's Jay Z tracks account for 72% of its historic earnings, with “Ni**a What Ni**a Who” and “Jigga What/Faint” being the largest contributors.

As a living hip-hop legend, Jay Z has 21 Grammys to his name and is touted as one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. He is also a well-established businessman as co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, founder of the entertainment company Roc Nation and the sports agency Roc Nation Sports. What's also exciting is that Jay Z might be even more relevant today than he was in the 90s when the tracks in the catalog were released. Finally, Jay Z is currently touring with wife, Beyoncé, with the On the Run tour through October 2017.
