Up for auction is a diverse collection of soul, funk, jazz-fusion and dance music. In the last 12 months, this international catalog generated nearly $6K in royalties from the French performing rights society SACEM. A highlighting feature of this catalog is the spread of income across a variety of tracks.
The majority of top-earning works for this collection are from the recent album release Red Lips of French-DJ Cerrone, considered one of the most influential disco producers of the 70s and 80s in Europe. Tracks “2nd Chance,” “Kiss It Better” and “Move Me” included in the release account for nearly 30% of earnings in the last 12 months.
Also included are, a variety of electronic-pop works from David Guetta, Kaz James and more. The Kaz James track “Show Me All Your Love” has generated over 11% of this collections recent earnings.
Sweetening the spread of royalties in this catalog are placements in TV & film. One of the top-earing tracks, “Gotta Get It Going” is featured in the production house Killer Tracks and contributes to over 10% of earnings in the last 12 months alone. This production track began earning in Q3 2015 and has collected every quarter since. Alongside “Gotta Get It Going,” additional works are included in the Killer Tracks music library, including “Prince of Persia,” “Talkin’ Box” and more.
International. A large portion of this catalog’s earnings come from outside of France. — at 46% of historical earnings. Although international royalty distribution can lag behind non-French payments and arrive with limited detail, as the winner of this auction you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by SACEM, regardless of when they were earned. It is important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.
Production Library. Production music is a vital part of the TV & radio industry. In fact, Production Music Association's Joe Saba called it a "$1 billion global industry hidden in plain sight." Right now, demand for music in TV shows, films, & commercials is tremendous. To meet their needs for all these uses, brands and production house often turn to production music libraries to find music more efficiently and cost effective than licensing commercial music.
Songs in this catalog stem from such production libraries as Killer Tracks. Whenever production groups are creating new content — a TV program, commercial or film — they look for music within vast production music libraries, like the above. As the winner of this auction, you will benefit from these songs being part of multiple large production libraries and receive royalties whenever they are used. If additional placements are found for this music, you will earn royalties without having to do any of the work!
