Interested in collecting royalties derived predominantly overseas? Look no further! With a heavy influence from K-Pop band Exo, this catalog boasts earnings from South Korea, the UK, Australia and many more. In the last 12 months, nearly 70% of royalties collected came from international sources.

But that’s not all, international royalties are on the rise due in part to the smash success of the top-earning track “Chill.” Released in 2017 from K-pop superstars Exo, “Chill” makes up over half of the recent earnings. The track itself received a large payment in Q2-2018 from South Korea.

Historically, the track “Greatest” from American hip-hop artist Futuristic contributed to 20% of this catalog’s earnings. Futuristic first gained recognition following the release of the track on his 2015 album The Rise. Royalties for “Greatest” grew 3% year-over-year.

This offering earns from additional Exo and Futuristic works including “Can’t Bring Me Down,” “Sub Me In,” and “The Rise.” Lastly, this collection features further international reach through the track “Azillion” from Australian hip-hop artist Iggy Azalea.

Key Drivers

International. The majority of this catalog’s earnings come from abroad — at 50% of historical earnings. Although international royalty distribution can lag behind domestic payments and arrive with limited detail, as the winner of this auction you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by BMI, regardless of when they were earned.

As this collection earns primarily from countries outside the United States, it’s important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.

Hip-Hop/Pop/Streaming. This catalog is a perfect example of three trends: hip-hop, pop and streaming's growth worldwide. According to BuzzAngle's 2018 Year End Report, hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in the U.S. The driver for the increase is streaming. Hip-hop/rap tracks accounted for more than a quarter of all on-demand plays on music streaming services in the US in 2018. But that’s not all…

Additionally, the BuzzAngle 2018 Music Reports also cites pop titles as the second-most streamed songs last year, representing 19.3% of all streams, up from 15.6% in 2017. This collection claims not one, but two of the most popularly streamed genres! This is great news for you as streaming accounts for 29% of this catalog’s earnings over the last 12 months.
