This single-song auction features the viral hit “Gucci Gang” from rising hip-hop idol Lil Pump. With over 959 million streams on YouTube and 510 million spins on Spotify, the track boasts an impressive streaming presence, contributing to over 83% of earnings historically for the work. Artist Lil Pump, claims well over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone and was named as one of the 30 Under 30 by Forbes in 2019.
Released in late 2017, “Gucci Gang” is Lil Pump's highest-charting single to date on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number three. The track has since charted in over 22 countries worldwide in addition to receiving Gold and Platinum certifications in eight countries. In 2018, “Gucci Gang” received a Billboard nomination for “Top Streaming Song.”
Following its initial release, the track sparked a pop culture tidal-wave, spawning numerous memes across social media, a reference on hip-hop legend Eminem’s most recent album Kamikaze, and even a parody sketch on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Hip-Hop/Streaming. This catalog is a perfect example of two trends: hip-hop and streaming's growth worldwide. According to BuzzAngle's 2018 Year-End Report, hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in the U.S. The driver for the increase is streaming. Hip-hop/rap tracks accounted for more than a quarter of all on-demand plays on music streaming services in the US in 2018. Streaming accounts for 83% of this catalog’s all-time earnings.
Streaming/Gen-Z. According to a recent study, Fluent, uncovered millennials and Gen-Z as the primary users of, subscription services like Apple Music and Spotify. At 19-years-old himself, the majority of Lil Pump’s following fall within his same age range and demand for his catalog on streaming sources follows suit.
New Releases. Less than a year ago, Lil Pump released “Arms Around You” with one of Spotify’s most-streamed artists of 2019, Maluma, further solidifying his already strong streaming presence. In addition, Lil Pump released his new album Harverd Dropout in early 2019. While the new songs are not included in this auction, new releases can help boost an artist's back catalog. The release of new music draws discovery among first-time listeners and re-engages existing fans.
