Description
Here we have a catalog containing custom-produced music featured in Nickelodeon programming. This collection of songs has prominent placements in the popular teen sitcoms Victorious, iCarly, and Sam & Cat.
This catalog is slightly different from a traditional production music asset. Many of these songs were created specially for these TV series, and are highlighted prominently within the programming. As a result, these tracks receive more lucrative payouts for their “featured” and lengthier presence.
The three Nickelodeon series — Victorious, iCarly, and Sam & Cat — account for 61% of this catalog's earnings in the last year, with Victorious bringing in the majority at 35%. The premise for Victorious revolves around an aspiring singer who attends a performing arts high school. Not surprisingly, the show contains numerous songs in every episode. Victorious features 19 songs from this catalog across upwards of 9 separate episodes. After four seasons and two Emmy nominations, the show now airs regularly on Teen Nick.
The series Sam & Cat and iCarly together bring in 26% of the catalog's earnings. Interestingly, Sam & Cat is a crossover/sequel of both Victorious and iCarly, and launched the career of pop star Ariana Grande. Both series air reruns as well on Teen Nick. Finally, the catalog also contains music placed in other TV series such as the comedy special Kevin Hart: Laugh At My Pain and reality TV programs Apres Ski, Tough Love, and Timber Creek Lodge, among others
Key Drivers
Type of Music. The biggest draw to this catalog is the fact that its music is custom-created for longer and featured placements among the Nickelodeon shows. The average performance duration of the songs in this catalog is over one minute and this means that they receive higher payouts. Check out the "Media" tab to listen to a few of the tracks.
Longevity. All three of these Nickelodeon series have been canceled for quite some time. Victorious as well as Sam & Cat aired their final episodes in 2014 and iCarly, in wrapped its last episode in 2012. What is interesting is that all three shows continue to air on the network Teen Nick and even do so in primetime. This speaks to the popularity of Nickelodeon's series, as they are still in high demand by young adult viewers and children. In fact, all three shows have episodes scheduled to air multiple times this week on Teen Nick!
