This catalog features a mix of pop and country tracks anchored by the No. 1 country hit “How Not To” from the group Dan + Shay.

Released in fall 2016, “How Not To” is off Dan + Shay’s second studio album, Obsessed. Bringing in 87% of last year’s income, the song hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay, No. 7 on Hot Country Songs, and peaked at No. 57 on Hot 100. “How Not To” is Gold-certified and has enjoyed considerable radio play — radio royalties account for 90% of the song’s earnings to date. "How Not To" has nearly 64 million plays on Spotify and is the band's second most popular song on the streaming service.

Also included in this catalog are a variety of singles from pop/rock bands. Notably is “Sad Song” from We The Kings featuring Elena Coats, which is also a Gold-certified release. “Sad Song” has amassed nearly 90 million spins on Spotify... We The King’s most popular song on the platform.

Finally, there are a number of other songs in this catalog that have received several commercial, TV, and film placements. To date, TV/Film earnings account for 13% of the collection’s income. There are 48 songs that have been used in nationwide commercials for Jeep, JC Penney’s, Macy’s, Michelob Ultra, T-Mobile, and Universal Studios. TV series placements include Madam Secretary, Hawaii Five-0, while feature film soundtracks include Friends With Benefits and Annie (2014).

Key Drivers

Country Music & Radio. Country music is already massive popularity has only grown over the last decade, particularly on radio. According to a recent Nielsen report, country is the top-ranked radio format compared to the nation’s radio audience as a whole, and the second-ranked music format when limited to the top markets only.

Radio royalties don't tend to level off as quickly with a popular country song, compared to other genres. Songs that experience significant radio play can often build a foundation of streaming and other types of income as the radio royalties slow down. As the winning bidder, going forward you'll collect the incoming radio royalties and other income sources — like streaming — for the next 10 years.

New Releases & Tours. Dan + Shay recently released a new song “Tequila” in January 2018. While the new song is not included in this auction, the Gold-certified track can help boost the group’s back catalog. Dan + Shay are also actively during Summer 2018 and through the beginning of 2019. The release of new music and active tours reengages existing fans and also draws discovery among new fans.
