Bid on publishing royalties from a catalog of dance/pop music driven by the world-renowned DJ Cassidy.

While the royalties included in this listing consist of mechanical, sync, and public performance, overall sync (royalties generated by licensing music for TV/Film) drive revenue. Sync earnings make up 62% of historic income and 50% of earnings in the last 12 months.

Of the various DJ Cassidy tracks included, “Kill The Lights” featuring Alex Newell and Nile Rodgers anchors this catalog with 43% of historic income. Released in 2016, the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Club chart. “Kill The Lights” is seeing considerable growth in mechanical royalties thanks to on-demand streams from Apple Music. To date, the disco-style song has over 41 million streams on Spotify and it’s enjoyed recent sync placements as well. “Kill The Lights” was featured in Episode 9 of the HBO series Vinyl, and was used during the winning couple's final dance in the Season 25 finale of Dancing With The Stars.

Also featured in this collection is the “Honor” from DJ Cassidy featuring Grace & Lil Yachty. The title brought in 39% of last year’s income. Released in early 2017, “Honor” was placed in the Baz Luhrmann Netflix series The Get Down and has over 3.5 million spins on Spotify.

Finally, this catalog also contains “Calling All Hearts” featuring Robin Thicke and Jessie J, which hit No. 9 on Billboard's Dance Club and No. 6 on the U.K. Singles chart, among other songs featuring electro-funk act Chromeo and hip-hop artist Wale.

Key Drivers

Reduced Administrative Costs. One compelling feature of this catalog is a pending reduction in publishing administration costs. The current publishing administrator, INgrooves Music Publishing, recently reduced its fees by 5% for public performance, mechanical and non-procured sync income. And that savings will be reflected in future distributions to the winning bidder, beginning with the Q1-2019 distribution to be paid on May 15, 2019.

Sync Licensing. This asset earns primarily sync royalties: 62% of historic earnings. Synchronization royalties are interesting for a couple reasons. First, they are less dependent on popular trends or radio airplay, as the music is not purchased for fans to enjoy and stream, but to create a mood. And second, the amount paid for the license (to use the music in a TV show or promo) is determined either through a negotiated contract (rather than a regulated system as with Internet radio) or through more recent innovations in online licensing.

This catalog has received numerous sync placements for four of its songs: “Calling All Hearts,” “Future Is Mine,” “Honor,” and Kill The Lights.” You’ll see spikes in the catalog’s earnings — Q2 2016, Q3 2016, Q1 2018 — thanks to to the upfront sync fees for these songs. As the winning bidder, you’ll collect all sync fees for future placements of any of the songs in the catalog in TV/Film.

Income Mix. The winner of this auction can receive income from various royalty streams:

  • Mechanical: Royalties paid to songwriters and artists when music is sold (downloaded) but also when music is streamed (streaming mechanicals) “on-demand” like Spotify for example.

  • Performance: Royalties paid to songwriters when music is performed publicly. Music played over the radio, in a restaurant or bar, or over a service like Spotify or Pandora is considered a public performance.

  • Synchronization: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers for the licensing of a song in music for a movie, TV show, or commercial.
