Description
Last week, the songwriter’s share of public performance royalties for this R&B/pop catalog was listed on Royalty Exchange — that popular offering can be found here.
If you missed out on that auction, we are now listing the publishing side — featuring many of the same tracks. This time, the winning bidder will collect from three types of publisher royalties: mechanical, public performance, and sync for the lifetime of the copyright of the included songs.
LISTING HIGHLIGHTS:
- Life of Rights investment term
- Multiple royalty types
FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Last year’s royalties are fairly evenly split between the different income streams: sync (38%), public performance (30%), and mechanical (29%). Public performance royalties saw the best year-over-year stability.
Most (84%) of last year’s sync earnings stem not from a one-time licensed placement in a TV show or film, but rather from regular use in YouTube and Facebook videos. These royalties are noted as “video streaming sync” by the publisher, generated when the music is played on those platforms and/or any ad revenue that is generated from the videos.
ABOUT THE CATALOG:
The top track is Grammy-nominee and R&B legend Charlie Wilson’s “I’m Blessed” featuring T.I. Released in 2016 release “I’m Blessed” brought in over 58% of the last 12 months earnings. This catalog also features “Good Time” a collaboration between Charlie Wilson and Pitbull from 2017.
The K-pop boy band NCT 127’s “Good Thing” follows with 15% of royalties in the last year. “Good Thing” is off of the band’s second EP, Limitless, which reached No. 1 on both the Gaon Album and the Billboard World Albums charts.
It’s worth noting the oldest of the top-5 earning songs — 2013’s “Christmas Time To Me” — from Jordin Sparks grew 4% year-over-year. Finally, the catalog includes "Where Did the Beat Go," from P!nk's Grammy-nominated, multi-Platinum album The Truth About Love (2012).
Key Drivers
Income Mix. The winner of this auction can receive income in various ways:
- Mechanical: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers when music is sold (think CD or vinyl) but also when music is streamed (streaming mechanicals) “on-demand” (like Spotify).
- Performance: Royalties paid to songwriters when music is performed publicly. Music played over the radio, in a restaurant or bar, or over a service like Spotify or Pandora is considered a public performance.
- Synchronization: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers for the licensing of a song in music for a movie, TV show, or commercial.
Matching Right
This seller's publisher holds a matching right on any sale of the income generated by this catalog. The publisher will have the opportunity to match the winning bid after this auction closes. If you are the winning bidder, the publisher must first decline their matching right before you will be able to complete your purchase. For more information on how the matching right works, please email: info@royaltyexchange.com
