Here's a chance to collect the royalties generated by multi-Platinum hip-hop artist Russ’ funky track “Willy Wonka.”
Streaming is the leading income source for “Willy Wonka," accounting for 58% of the last 12 months’ income. Apple Music is the top streaming source bringing in 21% of earnings over the last 12 months, with Spotify right behind at 19%.
“Willy Wonka” is a non-album single released in 2015 as a collaboration between Russ, vocalist Paulina, and afrobeat/rock artist Jafé. The song is a unique blend of relaxed electronic beats, Russ’ signature flow, and breezy vocals. “Willy Wonka” has nearly 26 million Spotify plays, while as an artist Russ boasts an impressive 10+ million monthly listeners on the platform.
Russ is a quickly rising name in the hip-hop game and has an incredibly loyal fan base. He was also recently noted on Forbes’ “The World's Highest-Paid Hip-Hop Acts 2018” list at No. 20 — a rather notable feat considering Russ has only been with a major label (Columbia Records) since 2016.
Hip-Hop & Streaming. “Willy Wonka” is a perfect example of two trends: hip-hop and streaming growth worldwide. Hip-hop overtook rock in 2017 as the most popular genre of music in the U.S. and now accounts for 31% of all music consumption. The driver for the increase is streaming. According to Rolling Stone, total consumption of Urban songs (Hip-Hop/Rap and R&B) by both streams and sales grew by 18% in the first half of 2018.
Streaming accounts for 63% of this song’s historic earnings and these earnings are on the rise, thanks to Apple Music, Spotify, and Pandora. Russ also has over 10 million monthly listeners on the Spotify platform — making him 212th most-streamed artist on Spotify. This is something to note as an investor.
Touring & Live Performances. Russ is currently touring in the U.S. with dates through mid-November along with additional shows in Brazil. Tours give artists the chance to solidify their current fan base and expand their reach to new listeners.
One unique aspect to this asset is that 40% of royalties in the last 12 months come from live performances of “Willy Wonka.” In fact, Russ performed “Willy Wonka” at a New York City show earlier this month! As the winning bidder, you’ll be entitled to the royalties from that live performance and future reported performances for "Willy Wonka" for the next 10 years. It’s important to note that if Russ stops touring/performing “Willy Wonka,” the earnings from these live performances could diminish.
