Description

This asset features publishing royalties from 21 tracks performed by rock band Redlight King. The winning bidder will collect three types of royalties: mechanical, public performance, and sync for the lifetime of the copyright for these songs.

FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Mechanical royalties are the largest income source with 59% of last year’s returns.

The next highest royalty source is what the publisher has labeled as “Other” with 24% of earnings. This income source includes Google AdSense revenue from ads placed within the YouTube videos of the included songs.

“Born to Rise” is the catalog’s top-producing track with 33% of royalties in the last year.

ABOUT THE CATALOG:

This catalog features songs from two albums recorded by the rock band Redlight King.

The top song is “Born to Rise” off the group’s 2013 album Irons in the Fire. The track peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and No. 30 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list. “Born to Rise” is also featured in the credits for the 2014 film Draft Day.

Also off Irons in the Fire is “Redemption” with 23% of last year’s returns. The track is featured on the “inspired by” soundtrack for the film Iron Man 3: Heroes Fall

Rounding out the top songs are three from the band’s 2011 debut album Something for the Pain. First is “Bullet in My Hand,” which peaked at No. 3 and No. 28 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and Alternative Songs charts, respectively. It also happens to be Redlight King’s second most popular song on Spotify with just over 10 million spins to date. There is also “Something for the Pain” and “Comeback.”

Key Drivers

Income Mix. The winner of this auction can receive income in various ways:

  • Mechanical: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers when music is sold (think CD or vinyl) but also when music is streamed (streaming mechanicals) “on-demand” (like Spotify).

  • Performance: Royalties paid to songwriters when music is performed publicly. Music played over the radio, in a restaurant or bar, or over a service like Spotify or Pandora is considered a public performance.

  • Synchronization: Royalties paid to songwriters and publishers for the licensing of a song in music for a movie, TV show, or commercial.

Streaming Growth Worldwide. According to IFPI’S Global Music Report 2021, subscription streaming revenues for recorded music increased 18.5% over the previous year. That’s the sixth consecutive year of growth, totaling 443 million paid subscription accounts worldwide. Total streaming (including both paid subscription and advertising-supported) grew 19.9% and reached $13.4 billion, or 62.1% of total global recorded music revenues.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING POST-AUCTION PROCESS

This winner of this auction will collect the royalties directly from the publisher Disney Music Publishing on a biannual basis. Please see the Post-Auction Process tab for further information.
