About The Catalog
This catalog consists of electronic/dance tracks from the EDM duo BONNIE X CLYDE. The group has an active fanbase, with just over 240,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. The duo is performing at the popular Bonnaroo music festival in the summer of 2020, and just released a new single in December 2019.
The highest-earning track in the catalog is “The Unknown” with 35% of last year’s income. It has 3.5 million plays on Spotify, making it the group’s second-most popular song on the platform. Worth noting: “The Unknown” was featured during the closing credits of the action film Underwater, released in January 2020. While this asset does not collect royalties for that use, it adds to the song's (and BONNIE X CLYDE's) exposure.
Other notable tracks in this offering include the remix “Live A Little,” which saw increased earnings as a result of Pandora usage, “Do It All Over,” “Rise Above” and “Why Do I.”
Key Drivers
Sound Recordings: Sound recording royalties benefit from streaming disproportionately more than composition-based royalties. If Spotify pays 70-cents of every dollar on music rights, 60-cents of that goes to the sound recording copyright (which the label splits with the artist based on their contract agreement), while the remaining 10-cents goes to the composition copyright.
Streaming-Driven Earnings: 97% of the last 12 months’ earnings came from streaming platforms, led by Spotify (35%) and Pandora (17%). Royalties from streaming services are not only the largest source of earnings for the music industry as a whole, but they are the most stable as well. Sound recording royalties enjoy a disproportionate share of streaming royalty income over other types of royalties.
WHAT IS BEING SOLD?
The seller's interest in all royalties (except synchronization, and non-interactive digital performance royalties collected by SoundExchange), attributable to the sound recordings listed in the Track List noted above.
