Description
Bid now and collect public performance royalties from the hit single “Up Down (Do This All Day)” from hip-hop heavyweights T-Pain and B.o.B. This single-song auction features an impressive Dollar Age of 6.01 years
Released in 2013 as the first single to T-Pain’s greatest hits album, T-Pain Presents Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits, “Up Down (Do This All Day)” peaked at No. 62 and 43 on the US Billboard’s Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart respectively. Recent earnings remain remarkedly steady following the tracks initial radio success over five years ago.
To date, “Up Down (Do This All Day)” has earned over 50% of its revenue from radio sources. Though, as the track has aged, earning sources like streaming have begun to increase. Currently, 42% of earnings in the last 12 months derived on streaming platforms, up 4% over the prior period. Additionally, international earnings have shown growth as well, contributing to 41% of earnings in the last 12 months, compared to 27% historically.
Key Drivers
Radio. Radio is the largest source of revenue for this catalog historically, accounting for 51% of royalties. Although radio royalties are still being generated, they could eventually level off. Typically, songs that experience significant radio play can often build a foundation for other types of income.
Case in point: streaming. Historically, streaming brought in 17% of royalties. In the last 12 months, however, streaming accounted for 42% of royalties. Streaming royalties are also seeing a 4% increase over the last 12 months. So as we're seeing the radio royalties begin to slow down, other income sources (streaming) begin to increase.
International. The majority of this catalog’s recent earnings have come from abroad — at 27%. As the winner of this auction, you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by BMI, regardless of when they were earned. As this collection earns primarily from countries outside the United States, it’s important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.
Hip-Hop/Streaming. This catalog is a perfect example of two trends: hip-hop and streaming's growth worldwide. According to BuzzAngle's 2018 Year End Report, hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in the U.S. The driver for the increase is streaming. Hip-hop/rap tracks accounted for more than a quarter of all on-demand plays on music streaming services in the US in 2018. Streaming accounts for 42% of this catalog’s earnings over the last 12 months and these earnings are up over 4% in the same period.
