This diverse catalog contains steady-earning music from TV/Film including “The Client List” and “Life Unexpected,” as well as the works of prolific Golden Globe-nominated folk singer/songwriter, composer, and musician, David Baerwald.

Listing Highlights

  • Life of Rights investment term
  • Over 6-Year Dollar Age = Stable earnings history
  • Extensive, varied catalog = built-in diversification

Financial Highlights

International revenue drives earnings with 59% of last year’s royalties. The second leading source is domestic streaming video accounting for 34% of returns. Notably, domestic streaming, streaming video, and TV/Film income sources are all trending upwards year-over-year.

Earnings stem from a diverse catalog of music spanning hundreds of tracks and varying release dates, including music placed in the TV shows “The Client List” and “Life Unexpected.” One of the top-earning songs in the catalog — “Welcome To The Boomtown” —  was released in 1986 and impressively income grew by 4% last year.

About the Catalog

This catalog features the work of folk singer/songwriter, composer, and musician, David Baerwald

Streaming video and TV/Film broadcasts drove 39% of the last 12 month’s earnings, with top-earners from music written for Lifetime television series “The Client List,” starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, and the CW series “Life Unexpected.” Other standout film placements include “The Weather Man,” starring Nicolas Cage, and the 2007 adventure drama, “Into the Wild.”

This catalog is different from a traditional production music asset, as many of these songs are highlighted prominently within the programming and even theme songs. As a result, these tracks receive more lucrative payouts for their “featured” and lengthier presence.

Highest-earning commercial releases include “Look At What We’ve Done” by Thomas Dybdahl and “On My Own” by Madeleine Peyroux. “Welcome To The Boomtown,” a track released by David & David in 1986 on their Platinum album Boomtown, even shows year-over-year growth!  Over 300 tracks drove 44% of the last 12 months’ earnings.

While Baerwald has continued to write and compose music for film and TV throughout his career, he released several albums as a notable folk singer/songwriter. Most notable are the timeless albums Bedtime Stories, featuring Joni Mitchell’s guitar and vocals on the track “Liberty Lies,” and,  in 1992, Triage.

Key Drivers

Dollar Age. This catalog has a Dollar Age of approximately 6.51 years. This means the majority of royalties earned in the last 12 months came from songs that have collected royalties for more than 6 years. A high Dollar Age like this suggests stability and longevity.

“Welcome to the Boomtown” was released in 1986 and royalties continue to grow/remain consistent. A catalog containing mature works with consistent (and even growing earnings) is something worth noting as an investor. This can help sustain a catalog's earnings moving forward.

International Earnings. The majority of this catalog’s earnings come from abroad — at 59% of last year’s earnings. As the winner of this auction, you’ll be entitled to any past performance royalties paid by ASCAP, regardless of when they were earned. As this collection earns primarily from countries outside the United States, it’s important to note that international earnings can often be reported to distributors with limited detail. These international earnings often include income from radio, streaming platforms, and TV/Film.

TV/Film Placements. This catalog benefits from placements in TV/Film, with the two top-earning songs being cues from The Client List and Life Unexpected.  Every time either of those series plays on TV, a royalty is generated for the music. As the winner of this auction, you'll collect the performance royalties for any of the songs' use in TV/Film.

About the Royalty Distributor
