Description
Up for auction is a unique collection driven by the viral success of hip-hop artists Young M.A, Rittz and others.
Released as a sequel to the budding hip-hop artist Young M.A’s first track, this collection’s top-earning work is “Walk.” In the last 12 months alone, “Walk” collected over 53% of earnings. Young M.A is recognized for her unique lack-of-a-hook style, which can be heard in the track “Walk.” Additionally, the track is featured on the Spotify curated playlist This Is Young M.A which boasts over 11k subscribers.
This catalog also features multiple tracks from hip-hop artist Rittz dating back to his first album The Life and Times of Jonny Valiant. Featuring the track, “My Interview,” the album itself peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s US Independent Albums. Released in 2013, “My Interview” is one of the oldest works yet contributes to 12% of earnings in the last 12 months. Bringing in over 10% of recent earnings, are tracks “Goin In,” “Amen,” and “Sober” which are also featured on the album.
Additionally, this collection earns from over a dozen works historically. The earnings spread across many works, providing stability in the earnings. In the last 12 months alone, nine works contributed to over 90% of earnings.
Key Drivers
Hip-Hop/Streaming. This catalog is a perfect example of two trends: hip-hop and streaming's growth worldwide. According to BuzzAngle's 2018 Year End Report, hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in the U.S. The driver for the increase is streaming. Hip-hop/rap tracks accounted for more than a quarter of all on-demand plays on music streaming services in the US in 2018. Streaming accounts for 86% of this catalog’s earnings over the last 12 months and these earnings are up over 48% in the same period.
